September 1st opened the season for dove in Texas, so I decided to do a piece highlighting the new season. For many of us, these species are common throughout cities and the Hill Country. Some even make pigs of themselves at backyard feeders. As a popular game bird, they also find themselves stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeños, and wrapped in bacon. 

Bird fact from the fine folks at www.allaboutbirds.com: The oldest White-winged Dove on record was at least 21 years and 9 months old. It was banded in Arizona and later recovered in Mexico.
